Hey guys! Sorry that this post is a couple hours late. That was completely my fault. Um, "me" being the Sheep. But anyway! This Plot Post was actually written by our own wonderful and talented Josh, because he knows more about Avatar: the Last Air Bender than either of us mods.
This week starts the Avatar plot! For three weeks, your character will have access to one of four Bending disciplines, the abilities to manipulate one of the four classic elements. Bending is much like martial arts, with each discipline (Waterbending, Earthbending, Firebending and Airbending) based on a real style of martial arts. By performing movements and concentrating, Benders are able to alter the world around them to their will and fight. The Avatar Wiki has good in-depth explanations of each Bending discipline. For those of you unsure of what you want your character to be, here's a brief overview:
Waterbenders can manipulate water in all its forms, including ice, snow and steam, as well as use water as a catalyst to heal wounds. They draw their power from the moon. The discipline is based on the flowing movements of Tai Chi. Waterbenders turn their opponent's offense against them in smooth attacks.
Earthbenders can control rock, dirt, and other earthen elements (except metal). They go barefoot to increase their connection to the earth and use strong, solid blows and a firmly rooted stance based on Hung Gar. Earthbending is based on listening and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Firebendin is the art of passion. Firebenders draw their power from the sun and their own breathing and use quick, deadly strikes found in Shaolin. Firebenders can not only manipulate fire but create it too. Skilled Firebenders can create lightning too.
Airbenders embody freedom and spiritual enlightenment. Air is the most adaptable of the elements, but also the most defensive. Airbending is based on the circular movements of Ba Gui and employs quick movements and leg action. Airbenders are able to use their abilities to fly.
Note that your character must be a Bender. They'll still have access to any other powers they might have, but they'll also have one of the four Bending arts.
Early in the week, tutors will appear in the Manor to teach everyone how to use their new abilities. Going to class is highly recommended, but you can still experiment with your powers by yourself, if you like.
The Avatar is the spiritual representation of the planet, a being reborn every generation into a different person. The Avatar can manipulate all four elements, and it is his or her purpose to ensure the world remains in balance. They also serve as the bridge between the physical world and the Spirit World.
Though the current Avatar has been missing for 100 years the Avatar still serves as a beacon of hope and balance throughout the world.
And the Manor is getting it's very own Avatar next week! If you want your character to be the Avatar please comment here!!
Spirits play a vital role in Avatar. They mostly inhabit the Spirit World (http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Spirit_World) but they influence the physical world as well. Spirits often have ties to certain locations, and some spirits act as guardians to rivers or forests. The shrine will be back at the Manor this week on the lakefront, and your characters can pay tribute to the spirits that look over the Manor or the various aspects of nature.
There will be subplots for the next two weeks which will concern the Avatar. If you'd like to volunteer your character to be the Avatar, please let us know.
Throughout the plot, the forest will be inhabited by the animals native to the Avatar universe. These animals are generally hybrids of our own animals, such as badgermoles, turtle ducks, cat owls...A complete list can be found here
Weather for this week will be calm, high 20's to low 30s. The snow will still be deep, soft enough to pack, but not sloppy or slushy yet.
The tag for this week is “Plot: Avatar: the Last Airbender”
Should anyone have questions about this plot, the Avatar Wiki has some great information, and clips of the show (if not whole episodes) can be found on Youtube. Uncle Iroh (and the mun) are familiar with the world, so they'll be useful sources of information and advice.
